When the Billie-Satiacum family was displaced by a fire in early February, the Puyallup Tribe’s Youth Center staff mobilized to gather donations, coordinate emergency housing and provide support for the family.
The Youth Center’s activities coordinators recently put together gift baskets for the family’s youths, ages 10, 12 and 16. The laundry baskets included blankets, water bottles, toys, games, toothbrushes, toiletries, snacks and Crocs, the kids’ favorite shoes.
“They’re starting over again, so we wanted to make sure they were taken care of,” said Youth Director Lisa Earl. “They pretty much lost everything.”
After the Billie-Satiacum family was able to get into a new house, the Youth Center’s maintenance staff helped furnish it with items from the furniture bank, which is housed at the center.
The Youth Center continues to collect donations of household items and clothing for the family. For more information, contact Lisa Earl at lisa.earl@puyalluptribe-nsn.gov.
