Volunteers are needed at the Puyallup Tribe’s tiny house village from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Everyone is asked to sign up in advance to help ensure COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place.
Friday, Feb. 26

The Puyallup Tribe has partnered with Low Income Housing Institute for the new village, which is located at 2027 East Wright St., Tacoma. It will include up to 30 tiny houses and a community kitchen, hygiene facilities, case management, and 24/7 staffing – all with the goal of providing shelter and support for homeless Tribal Members. Each tiny house is 8 feet by 12 feet, is insulated, and has heat, electricity, and a locking door.
LIHI is working with Puyallup Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO) for the project. So far, TMS Native Companies of Toppenish and OHM Electrical Contracting of Seattle are among the TERO-listed firms working on the tiny homes. Tribal community members are also welcome to volunteer at the site. The first volunteer work party took place on Friday, Feb. 19.
