Tribal Council Congratulates State Rep. Laurie Jinkins on Election As Speaker

A statement from Chairman David Z. Bean:

On behalf of the Puyallup Tribal Council, I would like to congratulate our good friend Rep. Laurie Jinkins on her election as the next speaker of Washington’s House of Representatives.

The Puyallup Tribe has known Rep. Jinkins for a long time. In that time, we have come to appreciate her deep knowledge of sovereignty and the complex issues facing Indian Country. Laurie has been a partner locally and legislatively on many important issues including the protection of scarce natural resources, dental care for tribal members, Initiative 1000, police use of deadly force, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

Laurie has also led the way fighting for equal rights for all peoples, and we were proud our Council participated in Pride Month events with her and other leaders.

The Puyallup Tribe is known as the “welcoming and generous people.” Laurie embodies this, and we congratulate her on her new journey. We stand ready to partner with her on efforts to be stewards for generations to come.
