Puyallup Tribe Land into Trust Act passes

In a historic vote, the U.S. House of Representatives voted  400-15 to send the Puyallup Land into Trust Confirmation Act to President Biden’s desk for signature.

The bipartisan bill would correct an absurd consequence of the decades of pollution brought to ancestral Puyallup lands. Putting land into trust with the federal government brings benefits to the Tribe, but any such land has to be in virtually pristine condition. The burden of cleaning the land to date has fallen on the Tribe. The Land into Trust legislation addresses that just as the Tribe is diversifying its economy and specifically deals with the Tribe’s new Ruston Way property, which is home to The Ram and the future Woven restaurant, and its port property.
