Puyallup Tribal Council endorses Hilary Franz for U.S. Congress

Council points to her success in preserving and protecting both land and water

PUYALLUP RESERVATION, Tacoma, Wash.— The Puyallup Tribal Council announces its endorsement of Hilary Franz for U.S. Congress.

Franz, who has served as the state’s public lands commissioner since 2017, is running for the 6th Congressional District seat occupied by U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election.

“Hilary Franz has demonstrated a unique ability to navigate complex Tribal relationships and strengthen the relationship our Tribe has with DNR,” Tribal Council said. “She was instrumental in securing funding to remove toxic pilings from our aquatic lands, to assist us in our response to Electron Dam’s catastrophic dumping of turf into our sacred Puyallup River and to develop a program to remove all DNR fish passage barrier culverts by the end of 2024. We will always work to preserve and protect our precious lands and waters, and she has proved to be a strong ally.”

The election will take place on Nov. 5, 2024.
