Cultural Department teaches class participants how to craft with cattails

By Hailey Palmer, Puyallup Tribal News

The Puyallup Tribe Cultural Department wrapped up its December classes with a how-to session on cattail weaving on Dec. 28 at the Winners Gym.

The cattail used for the class was harvested last spring near Chief Leschi Schools. Cultural Director Angie Totus opened with a prayer before Cultural Activities Coordinator Marsha Pluff guided participants in weaving reeds into mats and hearts. Dinner was also served during this fun crafting event.

An updated calendar with more classes hosted by the Cultural Department can be found at www.puyalluptribe-nsn.gov/events/month/.
