On Feb. 18, Chief Leschi Schools student Faith Hudson was honored as the school’s Daffodil Princess Candidate. Tiauna Lovely Spirithawk Augkhopinee, who was crowned princess in 2016, placed a Native beaded princess crown-tiara on Faith to mark her status. Left to right are Princess Candidate Kaitlyn Bolland of Bonney Lake High School, Princess Candidate Faith Hudson of Chief Leschi Schools, Puyallup Tribal Councilwoman Monica Miller and Princess Candidate Sydney Brickey of Spanaway Lake High School. The Daffodil Festival (thedaffodilfestival.org) has been active in Pierce County for more than 80 years, and the princesses of the Royal Court spend thousands of hours promoting education, community pride and volunteerism. Faith and 22 princesses will join the Princess Promenade on Feb. 27 and compete to be reign as queen of the 2022 Daffodil Festival. The Queen’s Coronation will take place Sunday, March 27, with additional events that lead to the Grand Floral Parade in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting on Saturday, April 9. This year’s parade will include a brand-new Queen’s Float, sponsored by the Puyallup Tribe, that will feature all 23 members of the Royal Court. Faith is well-known at Chief Leschi and the community. She plays track and is on the statebound Lady Warriors Basketball team. “On behalf of Tribal Council, we all are very, very proud of her hard work and great accomplishments,” said Councilwoman Monica Miller, who attended Faith’s ceremony. “Faith, you are our Princess. Keep shining. Tribal Council also wants to thank all Chief Leschi staff, drummers and dancers, and the School Board for making this wonderful honoring event happen.”
