Tribe welcomes World Cup visitors with local organizing committee

As Host City Supporter for the upcoming World Cup, the Puyallup Tribe and SeattleFWC26 welcomed representatives from the countries that will be playing in Seattle this summer in a Celebration of Nations event Jan. 15 in Seattle.

Guests were greeted with drumming and singing as they walked in the doors before heading up the elevators to the main event.

Language Director Amber Hayward later gave the land acknowledgment and traditional welcome in Lushootseed before Heritage Division Manager Connie McCloud shared a blessing.

Drummers, singers and dancers blessed the floor before Puyallup Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud and World Cup 2026 Project Director Amy McFarland shared remarks welcoming the room to the Puyallup Reservation this summer for the Puyallup Tribe World Cup Powwow and Stick Game Tournament
