Families and community members returned to the Wolf Camp in Graham this week to participate in the 2026 Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) Summer Camp, which ran from Aug.10-12.

Each day of the camp focused on a different cultural community pillar, with campers beginning the week with belonging and mastery before moving on to interdependence and generosity. These pillars are part of the GONA curriculum framework, and allow youth to learn in a fun and culturally immersive setting.

“The culturally grounded life skills curriculum provides the necessary skills for youth to successfully navigate life’s journey,” Culture Coordinator Victoria Horrell said.

Activities this year included rock painting, archery, various craft stations and more hosted by multiple Tribal Departments including kʷaxʷačiʔ (Kwawachee) Behavioral Health & Wellness and the Wrap Around Program.

Housing Gym Activities Coordinator Lucia Earl-Mitchell said her favorite part about working with the youth at GONA is seeing their willingness to learn.

“I love to see the engagement, and each one has their own personality when learning,” Earl-Mitchell said.

With the renovations made to the camp last year, campers were now able to enjoy the brand-new basketball court and take a break from the sun under the new covered activity and dining areas. More renovations to the area are still in the works, including a dock that will be built on the nearby lake.

In addition to the summer program, the Culture Department also hosts a spring break camp at the Little Wild Wolves Youth Center for those interested in getting connected with the GONA program.
