Parents and families gathered once again at the Little Wild Wolves Youth Center for the latest Parent Engagement Night on July 16.
Wrap Around Youth Program Coordinator Meagan Pedigo led the meeting as the group concluded their months-long book discussion on “Raising Good Humans” by podcaster Hunter Clarke-Fields.
Mindfulness and active listening were the primary topics, with discussions around how to reframe communication and approach conversations with care and tact. Participants broke into pairs and were instructed to spend one minute listening to one another without interrupting or responding — a challenge some found surprisingly difficult.
“We shift from the resolving ‘fix-it’ to focusing on their needs,” Pedigo said of the exercise.
Attendees voiced their thoughts on the topic and reading material, with many saying communication ranks among the biggest challenges in raising a family. The meeting continued with a raffle and some food for thought as the attendees went home for the evening.
