Puyallup Tribal Chairman Bill Sterud joined the Tacoma City Council on June 2 to announce the proclamation of June as Fan Zone month ahead of the upcoming World Cup festivities.

Tacoma Mayor Anders Ibsen delivered the proclamation during the city council meeting, expressing the city’s shared commitment with the Tribe to regional pride and creating a welcoming experience for both residents and visitors.

The Puyallup Tribe is the first Native American Tribe to be Official Host City Supporter of the 2026 World Cup, with multiple fan zone events planned that include viewing parties, parades, stick games and more.

“This is a historic moment, not just for us but for the entirety of western Washington,” Sterud said. “Great things are going to happen, and there are great things happening right now: you can call it unity.”
