The Tribe’s 72nd Street property received a facelift that will improve its operations throughout the summer and beyond.
The property, also known as Firecracker Alley, is known for hosting the Tribe’s food truck village, National Night Out, Safe Summer Kickoff, powwows, fireworks and car shows. It underwent upgrades from October 2025 through May 2026.
Three new permanent restrooms were installed in March. Puyallup Tribe Managed Properties Executive Director Dan Kain said the restrooms are ADA compliant and are park restrooms. Another addition included the installation of electrical pedestals throughout the property, allowing an increased amount of food trucks and fireworks stands on site than in the past.
Community Events Director Chester Earl said before the updates there was a capacity of 107 fireworks stands and 15 food trucks, but that number has increased to 130 fireworks stands and 28 food truck spaces.
“Now, we have the opportunity for almost 160 Tribal Member families to make extra money in the summers. It is absolutely amazing and heartwarming,” Earl said.
Firecracker Alley was previously located on Tribal land near the Port of Tacoma and relocated to the 72nd Street property in summer 2022.
Earl said watching the 72nd Street property evolve over the years from a dairy farm to an event center is exciting.
“There is a lot of pride in that. Council is really looking out for Membership and have put a lot of thought into developing the property to make it very useful for our membership,” Earl said.
An additional lower parking lot was also created with an entry point on 64th Street East to accommodate not only parking, but a location for individuals operating fireworks stands to purchase fireworks from vendors.
Kain said the addition of the lower parking lot frees up more parking spots in the upper lot for people visiting the property. Previously, fireworks vendors were located in the upper lot. Kain said visitors will also notice additional lighting and surveillance cameras throughout the site. The new cameras have a strong enough broadband that footage can be live-streamed directly to the Tribe’s security team on site.
The site is now open fully with work completed in early May.
